Recently, two auxiliary police officers were charged with official misconduct in the fatal accident of a 31-year-old man from Paterson. The officers are alleged to have sounded their vehicle’s sirens, which led Randolph Waddy to reasonably believe they were making a traffic stop. According to local ordinances, the officers are not allowed to make traffic stops.
Waddy, suspecting he was either being pulled over or in an attempt to get out of the way, hit the rear of a parked car. The two officers allegedly fled the scene and did not stop to check on Waddy, who later died.
While the facts of this case are tragic, they highlight an even more troubling situation: a near epidemic of motorcycle crashes throughout the country. The sheer volume of accidents means the public needs a qualified motorcycle accident lawyer to rely on in times of need. Motorcyclist deaths more than doubled between 1999 and 2008, reaching an all time high.
An experienced motorcycle accident lawyer can help. In times of fatal accidents, a lawyer can look toward wrongful death lawsuits against the person who caused the accident or even negligent road maintenance or design if this contributed to the accident. Often times, family members of the fatal victim can be compensated for their devastating loss.
If a motorcycle rider was injured, we will fight to secure financial compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, medical bills, and more.
