Pennsylvania drivers should expect to find more police units patrolling the state over Holiday weekends. This news comes short on the heals of Philadelphia PD turning up the heat on aggressive drivers.
Surprisingly, Easter weekend is almost as bad as New Year’s Eve in terms of both DUI and speeding. Other holidays Penn police step up traffic patrols for reckless driving include Labor Day, July 4th, and New Year’s.
Departments in Northampton, Berks, and Lehigh counties will take the lead in this heightened patrol presence. Police from these districts said they will increase their presence on roads from Good Friday through Easter Sunday.
In addition to keeping motorists safe, Penn police use these weekends to collect traffic safety data. Last year, for example, the police arrested over 25 drivers for DUI and handed out almost 400 speeding tickets on Easter weekend.
